Have you tried everything from diets to heading to the gym to lose weight? Have none of them worked? Try out these simple and easy yoga poses!
Ever gone through multiple phases to get rid of that excess weight? Have you been through multiple gym sessions and been watching your diet constantly? Is losing weight your biggest goal? Have you tried every weight loss tip in the world? Then it is time to switch things up! There are multiple yoga poses that help accelerate weight loss and they are quite simple!
Planks
One of the best exercises to strengthen the core muscles and lose weight easily are planks. It may not look like too much effort is being made in this pose since all you need to do is draw your heels and the top of your head in different directions and keep your chest in between your arms while moving forward. Doing this on a daily basis will ensure you lose your belly fat and get rock hard abs.
The Triangle
This exercise may also not look like much, but it will make your muscles shake and tone them. You need to spread your legs wide and ensure your hands are spread out and are parallel to the floor. Twist your body and make your right hand touch your left leg and vice versa. This will tone the muscles in your arms and legs.
The Downward Dog
Want to tone your entire body at once? Opt for the downward dog position as it focuses on strengthening your arms and thighs. You need to bend and touch your hands to the floor with enough gap between your hands and feet. Then try to move your hands as close as possible to your feet without bending your knees. And don't forget to breathe!
The Bridge
This exercise is great for those who have ailments like thyroid and glutes and even accelerates weight loss.
You need to lie down straight on a mat and bend your knees bringing your feet as close to your buttocks. This helps the abdomen in losing weight and improves digestion.
Sun Salutation
One of the easiest exercises in the books, all you need to do here is lie down flat on your stomach, lay your palms flat on the ground parallel to your body and lift your upper body up while craning your neck backwards. Stretch as much as possible for a toned chest, midriff, arms and balance your metabolism.

Fitness Class Clarkson: Unheralded Part Of Farmers Market:
I greeted July’s first morning with a “Namaste” in Burlington Park at my first-ever yoga class. To be the age I am and to consider that I lived in India, home of yoga, for three years and have yet to attempt yoga says something about my pursuit of inner and outer fitness.
How many people have their first exposure to Warrior One right across from a van selling tamales and another one making baby doughnuts? When we were done stretching, folding, bending and posing, I searched out the tamale and the baby doughnut as well as a big juice, hunk of cheese and a container of fresh raspberries all right there at the Hinsdale Farmers Market. I am sure that was the point.
The word “free” is what attracted me to Burlington Park in the first place. I was participating in Free Fitness in the Park offered Monday mornings as the farmers market opens. That particular Monday morning, Katya Sidelnik of Inner Jasmine Yoga led the group in serene stretching. I was super focused on the physical part of the stretching and the deliberate inhaling and exhaling. I was also conscious of the soothing music Sidelnik played as she guided us.
I delighted to be outside so early — 7 a.m. on a Monday with no rain in sight. OK, there was no way to ignore the cacophony of Metra North chugging into Chicago and chugging back from Chicago. I saw people dressed up for work rushing to catch those trains. When we lay on our backs to hug our knees, I looked up at the layers of clouds crossing quickly in the sky and noticed the planes piercing the blue, adding their own noise to the morning.
Maybe that doesn’t describe the typical yoga experience, but I really enjoyed mine, and I will go back.
Free Fitness in the Park was an idea of the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce’s, said Chamber board chair Gretchen Barnard, a fellow yogi that morning. She told me that board members had tossed the idea around for a few years and this year they approached several area fitness spots and asked if they would be willing to put on programs during the farmers market.
Inner Jasmine has hosted the fitness now twice and will be up again Aug. 5, Sept. 16 and Oct. 7. Five Seasons Club will host fitness training on Aug. 12; F45 Training Hinsdale offers its class on July 15 and Aug. 26. Club Pilates in Westmont offers classes on July 22, Sept. 30 and the last Monday of the farmers market, Oct. 14.
Energie Pilates offers a class on July 29 and again on Sept. 9, and Shred415 HIIT Fitness Training offers classes on Aug. 19, and Sept. 2 and 23. Check with the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce about the specific times because the classes will start later depending on sunrise and each studio’s schedule.
It was fun to be out there, and I found it a great way to try something new without the pressure or awkwardness of showing up at a studio. Having said that, I found out I was not good at the tree pose, the one where you stand on one leg and place the sole of the other foot on your calf. This is much harder than you think. But it was early, and I am not sure too many people were looking at me and what I was or was not doing.
Later that Monday, I was out walking my in-town errands and walked through the farmers market again. I bumped into some old friends I had not seen in a while, chatted them up and noticed quite a few other tables set up in addition to the tempting meat and fish, produce, cheeses, oils and fruit.
For more information, visit www.hindalechamber.com and click on the link which describes the weekly activities. It will show the exact time of the free fitness classes each week.
Be sure, too, to check out the new farmers market in Clarendon Hills on Thursday mornings at Park and Prospect avenues.
